Oh, those hairy men of the 1970s! There was no metrosexual grooming protocol of waxing and/or shaving of the body by men in the seventies. Au contraire – au naturale virility, baby. The hirsute salute. Of which Tom Selleck definitely had it going on, baby. He was practically the model of the ideal 70s man.
While Mr. Selleck stole hearts, we brazenly admit we stole this vintage man candy pic of Tom on the net. We have no shame so shut up. Neither do you since you looked right at it and we noticed you drooled a bit. Either out of envy or pure lust, drool is drool. We won’t tell anyone on you. You know he’s a looker in this pic regardless of the decade.
So yeah, if you happened to be a man who was naturally less hairy in the 70’s, you may have felt cheated. Because you were. The studly guys were out there wearing their shirts slightly opened to showcase the masculinity of a hairy chest, or showing off shirtless like Tom is. Hmmmm. Perhaps there was a hairless stud or two out there back in the ’70s, but none immediately come to mind. Nope.
Back in the 1970s if you were a fur deficient man we wondered if chest merkins existed, you know – a chest hair wig a guy could use in order to fit in with the in crowd. Were they a thing? Do ya have a pic we can steal of a dude actually wearing one if they did?
One thing we are sure of is that nowadays it’s easier for guys that want to “fit in” with the metrosexual grooming protocol. Although the hairier man may have to up the ol’ shaving spending fund, he could also choose to join the beardy hipsters. Regardless today, hairy, hairless, beardy, beardless, mustache or not… just aim to be the best man YOU can be, eh?
After all, there’s only one Tom Selleck.
